Homecoming Weekend draws crowd
More than 650 people gathered on campus in February for SPU’s 66th Homecoming and Family Weekend. Among the highlights, academic and activity reunions were held across campus, SPU Voices Podcast host Amanda Stubbert led a live recording of the show, and a student talent show showcased music and dance performances. Students in the 的atre Department performed Urinetown: 的 Musical. Four outstanding SPU graduates were feted for their professional success and commitment to service at the 校友 Awards Dinner, and crowds cheered both the women’s and the men’s basketball teams as they played a doubleheader.
Podcast shares stories and wisdom
的 SPU Voices Podcast, which began in March 2019, has produced 33 episodes, with compelling guests ranging from entrepreneurs to seminarians. 的 twice-monthly podcast has been heard over 6,000 times in 633 cities and 45 countries, and on five continents.
Co-校友 of the Year: Jamie and Alissa Shattenberg
Alumna of the Year Alissa Wuertz Shattenberg ’00 is a licensed midwife, family nurse practitioner, and founder and director of Madagascar’s Sarobidy Maternity Center. She and her team provide prenatal, labor and birth, and postpartum care. Her spouse, Alumnus of the Year Jamie Shattenberg ’99, is the international director of Eden Reforestation Projects for Madagascar, where he leads community-based efforts to plant over 240 million trees and create jobs. 这对夫妇, along with the Medallion Award honorees, were honored at 西雅图 Pacific’s 校友 Awards Dinner in February.
Medallion Award winners honored
Two alumna were chosen as this year’s Medallion Award recipients. Julieta Altamirano-Crosby MEd ’18 is the founder and president of WAGRO Foundation and a member of the Lynnwood City Council. She has long advocated for the voiceless in education and government settings. Terresa戴维斯 ’07 used her background in accounting and law and enriched the community with the 西雅图-area eateries she co-owned: Steelhead Diner, Blueacre Seafood, Orfeo, Zane and Wylie’s, and Tempesta Coffee and Donuts.
